Colombia will be at the 2026 World Cup looking to make up for lost moments after missing the 2022 edition. They will be starting off this journey with a Group K match against debutants Uzbekistan. Colombia have the chance to hand the Uzbeks a tough introduction, and five clean sheets in their last 10 outings will have them as the pick in our prediction.
This match will mark the start of their seventh World Cup appearance, and they will be playing their 23rd match at the world championships. La Tricolor will be looking to at least match their quarter-final finish in 2014, their best performance at a World Cup tournament.
Four years later they fell in the round of 16 before missing out in 2022. Uzbekistan do not have a history anywhere close to Colombia's, as they are just making their first appearance. In their first ever World Cup game, they will be keen on stopping a top side in a group that also has Portugal and Congo DR.

Uzbekistan - Colombia: Form Analysis
Uzbekistan are the first nation from Central Asia to qualify for the World Cup finals. Before this tournament, the closest they’d been to World Cup pedigree was courtesy of coach Fabio Cannavaro, winner in 2006. The Italian led the team through a marathon of 16 matches in the Asian qualification journey, losing just once.
The White Wolves’ friendly matches before heading into this competition, however, didn’t come with the best of results. They suffered defeat against Canada (2-0) and the Netherlands (2-1). Those results left them winless in the last three matches, with the Uzbeks managing to score just once.
Colombia scored an average of 2.5 goals in their last 10 matches.
Colombia didn’t have a great start to the year, losing their two friendly outings in March. After a nine-match unbeaten run, they were undone in a 2-1 defeat by Croatia before falling 3-1 to France. However, in preparation for this competition, they faced Costa Rica and Jordan, winning 3-1 and 2-0, respectively.
The win against Jordan marked their first clean sheet in four matches, but their scoring run will give them an edge. In their latest 10 matches, Colombia failed to score in just one. They netted 25 goals in the 10 outings. Colombia will also draw confidence in having scored 10 goals in their last three competitive matches.

Uzbekistan & Colombia Squad Analysis
While Uzbekistan lack World Cup experience, having a manager who has been at the top of the world will be a key motivator. There are high chances that they will have to line up defensively, and who else is better placed to guide this than Fabio Cannavaro.
The Italian featured in three World Cup tournaments and won once, and their most recognizable player, Abdukodir Khusanov, will look to learn under Cannavaro's wings. The Manchester City defender enjoyed game time this season with the team having to deal with injuries to key defenders. He did well and will be charging for a top role in Cannavaro's team.
Luis Diaz had 26 goals and 19 assists for Bayern Munich last season.
Colombia’s return to the world championships is one major story. The other is James Rodrigues’. Now edging towards the end of his career, James announced himself in the 2014 tournament in Brazil. Playing in his first World Cup, the Colombian scored six times to become Colombia’s top scorer at the World Cup.
He also won the Golden Boot and is making a return after his career took a wrong turn since. James’ impact in this tournament will be defined by the ability to keep his good partnership with Luis Diaz, who is coming off a great season with Bayern Munich.

Our Uzbekistan vs Colombia Prediction
In their last three competitive matches, Colombia scored 10 goals, a rich run of form that saw them finish the CONMEBOL qualifiers ahead of Brazil and the likes. They carried the same to the pre-tournament warmups, scoring five times in their two matches.
La Tricolor have not all been about attack; they’ve also recorded good numbers defensively. They will feel capable of extending that against a nation appearing at this stage for the first time. That will be helped by the fact that Uzbekistan lost their last two games. As such, our prediction for Uzbekistan v Colombia is over 2.5 goals & BTTS-No.
Uzbekistan vs Colombia Alternative Predictions
Colombia wins
Colombia’s experience at this stage compared to Uzbekistan’s is unmatched. There is also a big gulf in quality separating the two nations. This being the Uzbeks’ first appearance at the World Cup, we aren’t backing them to rattle the Colombians. In our second prediction, therefore, we will back a Colombia win.
