After 1-1 draws in their respective opening games of the 2026 World Cup, Switzerland and Bosnia will be battling for three points when they meet on Thursday. This matchday two of Group B will see all four teams on identical records, with both matches ending 1-1 from matchday one. The Fair Play score separates the first-placed ‘Red Devils’ from the fourth-placed ‘Dragons’, adding more context to this outing. Both teams will loathe dropping more points, with another exciting clash promised.

Switzerland were stunned by a late goal by Qatar in a 1-1 draw. The game will be remembered for the missed chances in the final third as Austria dominated in possession (68%), expected goals xG (3.20), total shots (26), big chances created (six), and practically on all counts.

Bosnia played out a 1-1 draw with co-hosts Canada in their tournament opener, holding a lead from the 21st minute until a 78th-minute equalizer spoiled their hopes. Both teams will be keen on picking up their first win of this World Cup, but who has the edge? Read our analysis, team news, and match predictions to find more.

Switzerland - Bosnia Herzegovina: Form Analysis

Breel Embolo converted a 17th-minute penalty to give Switzerland a 1-0 lead against Qatar on Saturday. They kept pushing for more and were guilty of not converting their chances, although the Qatari keeper Mahmoud Abunada, was in great form on the day.

Miro Muheim’s late own goal snuffed their hopes, making it consecutive 1-1 draws for the ‘Red Devils’. The Swiss have made it to the round of 16 in their last three World Cups, and repeating that feat could hinge on picking up a win here.

Switzerland drew five of their last eight matches.

Bosnia also took an early lead with Jovo Lukic’s 21st-minute goal, giving them a lead against Canada. It was an evenly contested game, which saw the ‘Dragons’ concede in the 78th-minute and settle for a point.

Interestingly, this is the sixth consecutive draw for the Bosnians during regulation time. Five of those stood 1-1 after 90 minutes, a score that Bosnia are perhaps getting used to, at an alarming rate!

Switzerland & Bosnia Herzegovina Squad Analysis

Switzerland had no injury concerns from the match against Qatar, although Remo Freuler had a collision with Qatar's keeper. The Swiss lined up in their traditional 4-3-3 formation with Embolo in the middle and Dan Ndoye and Ruben Vargas on the flanks.

Ndoye, in particular, had six shots in the game and two on target, but ended with just 0.40 xG count. Midfield general Granit Xhaka will once again be the core of their attacks, with the Sunderland player boasting a 94% passing accuracy against Qatar.

Embolo has four goals in his last six international appearances.

Bosnia had an injury scare against Canada with Sead Kolasinac replaced in the 84th minute. Kolasinac assisted their only goal and is expected to be fit again, with the fullback making seven clearances against Canada.

The Bosnians are once again likely to use the 4-4-2 formation with Ermedin Demirovic and Jovo Lukic being their strikers. Veteran forward Edin Dzeko stayed on the bench for the third game in a row, perhaps saving him for this key contest.
