A group stage exit in 2022 is among the memories Belgium will be looking to bury when they arrive for the 2026 World Cup. Competing in Group G, they are set to open their campaign against African giants Egypt. Making their 15th appearance on the global stage, Belgium also come into this game as favorites, a reason we are backing them in our prediction.
After missing two editions, in 2006 and 2010, the Red Devils are making a fourth straight appearance at the World Cup. This time the target is to better their third-place finish, which they managed in 2018. This match will be their 52nd at this level, and Rudi Garcia’s men will be targeting a 22nd win.
Egypt will also be looking to better their previous performance on the big stage. The Pharaohs are only making their fourth World Cup appearance. The African nation is yet to win a game at this stage, having lost five of the seven played.

Belgium - Egypt: Form Analysis
Belgium completed an undefeated run in the qualifiers to secure their 15th World Cup appearance. They return to competitive action having had a smooth run in the pre-tournament friendly matches. In their two warmup matches, Belgium registered wins, scoring a total of seven goals as they beat Croatia and Tunisia.
That stretched their run of unbeaten matches to 13. Under manager Rudi Garcia, the Red Devils have done well, only losing his debut match against Ukraine. In their last 13 matches they managed nine wins, a run that will boost their hopes of a first win over Egypt in competitive action.
Belgium and Egypt are set to meet competitively for the first time.
Like Belgium, Egypt’s last appearance at the World Cup ended at the group stage. Theirs was in 2018, though, as they could only manage two goals in three straight defeats in Russia. The Pharaohs’ return to the tournament after 28 years ended without much fanfare save for Mohamed Salah’s two goals.
They come into the 23rd edition of the competition seeking a first-ever win at this stage. Their recent performances have, however, been shaky, casting doubt on their ability to rise to the occasion against a strong Belgium side. Hossam Hassan’s charges haven’t been in the shape for that, after failing to win in four of their last six matches (2D, 2L).

Belgium & Egypt Squad Analysis
Belgium have a wealth of attackers, and that has been further enriched by Romelu Lukaku’s recovery after spending most of the season injured. The standout performer in their recent outings, however, has been Dodi Lukebakio. In the Benfica forward’s last three matches for the national team, he has scored four goals.
In March he netted twice against World Cup co-hosts USA in a 5-2 win. He would then come up with the Red Devil’s only goal in a 1-1 draw with Mexico. As Belgium wrapped up their preparations for this tournament, Lukebakio was among the scorers again as they thumped African representatives Tunisia 5-0.
Romelu Lukaku has had six goal involvements in his last six national team matches.
While Belgium will parade a star-studded team, for Egypt, none of the players stands out more than Mohamed Salah. The striker, doubling up as skipper, will be looked up to in the quest to end the Pharaohs’ winless run at this competition.
Salah jointly holds the record for most World Cup goals for Egypt, having scored twice in Russia 2018. He has the chance to not only edge clear but also add to his current 67 goals for Egypt. In his only previous match against Belgium, Salah had an assist as they beat the European nation 2-1.
Belgium - Egypt Key Points
- Belgium are unbeaten in 13 matches, winning nine.
- Egypt have posted just two wins in their last six matches.
- Egypt are winless in four of their last five away outings.
- Belgium have won 21 matches in their World Cup history.

Our Belgium vs Egypt Prediction
Egypt have never played more than three matches at a World Cup tournament. The Pharaohs will be keen to change that stat and it starts with bagging their first World Cup win. Targeting that against this current Belgian side calls for a lot, as Belgium are one of the top performers on the global stage.
The Red Devils come here unbeaten in 13 matches, having posted nine wins in that run. This marks the first competitive meeting between the two nations after four friendly games, and our prediction for Belgium v Egypt is that Belgium wins.
Belgium vs Egypt Alternative Predictions
BTTS: No
While Belgium are more recognizable by their attacking talent, the team has developed into a defensively solid side under Rudi Garcia. The Red Devils come into this encounter having posted six clean sheets across their last 10 matches.
Their latest one was in a 5-0 win against Egypt’s neighbors Tunisia. While they are enjoying a good period defensively, their opponents, Egypt, have failed to score in three of their last six matches. Going by these numbers, we are backing BTTS-No as our second prediction.
