Following a successful 2026 FIFA World Cup opener in front of their home crowd, co-hosts Mexico will welcome South Korea to the Estadio Akron in the penultimate Group A fixture for both nations. The two teams have met on multiple occasions, and the hosts have won three of their last four meetings, making a Mexico win our prediction for this encounter.
Mexico had a chaotic start to the tournament against South Africa, where three red cards were shown. However, they managed to come out on top in convincing fashion against this opponent for the first time since June 2000, when they prevailed 4-2 in an international friendly. The objective now is to make it two wins on the bounce, which will confirm early qualification for the knockout stages.
South Korea also rode a wave of optimism, defeating the Czech Republic in the opener. They now face a side they've not beaten in four consecutive meetings. Additionally, they've won just five of their last 15 meetings against this opponent, indicating they could struggle for a favourable outcome.

Mexico - Korea Republic: Form Analysis
Mexico endured a chaotic start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup as their opener against South Africa saw three red cards brandished, compared to just four across the entire tournament in the previous edition held in Qatar.
Despite that, El Tri managed to come out on top, securing a 2-0 victory in front of their home crowd. Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez were on the scoresheet.
Following that triumph, Javier Aguirre's men have now avoided defeat in each of their last nine matches across all competitions. Notably, they've won four consecutive matches.
South Korea are winless in their last four meetings with Mexico. Is this the perfect time to end that unwanted run?
South Korea had it tough in their opener against the Czech Republic, as it appeared as if they were destined to suffer their first defeat in the competition.
Trailing by a goal in the 59th minute, Hwang In-Beom restored parity eight minutes later, and Oh Hyeon-Gyu scored a late winner, which saw the team prevail 2-1 at Estadio Akron. Currently, they occupy second place in Group A, level on points with leaders Mexico.
In light of that result, the Taegeuk Warriors have won three consecutive matches in which they kept two clean sheets. Hopefully, that momentum should be enough to see them record their first win against Mexico in four games.

Mexico & Korea Republic Squad Analysis
Following a convincing win over South Africa in the opener, it's likely that head coach Javier Aguirre is going to name an unchanged starting XI.
However, the Mexican national team will be without their defensive anchor in Cesar Montes, who was shown a straight red card after denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. In his place, Jorge Sanchez could be the likely replacement.
Raul Jimenez, who played a major role in the team's win, is expected to lead the attack once again. The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward registered four shots and scored once, marking his 46th goal in 125 appearances.
Can Heung-Min Son contribute this time and put his side in the driving seat for early qualification to the knockout stages with a match-winning display?
South Korea could also name an unchanged starting XI with head coach Hong Myung-bo opting for the same 3-4-2-1 formation. Commanding the backline is Bayern Munich's Kim Min-Jae, who had a terrific performance, winning six out of nine duels.
The Los Angeles FC forward, Son Heung-Min, is going to lead the attack once again, but his performance against the Czech Republic had everyone questioning his influence in the final third.
The 33-year-old had one shot on target from six attempts and missed one big opportunity to score his 56th international goal.
