Qatar will look for their first FIFA World Cup win ever when they take on group favorites Switzerland in a Group B match of the 2026 edition on Saturday. This match between the 'Maroon one' and the 'Red Crosses' could test the credentials of the Swiss as they look to start on a high. Going by the offensive concerns of Qatar, our match prediction backs BTTS No.
After playing three rounds of qualifying in the Asian federation (W10, D3, L5), Qatar managed to earn a place in this World Cup. This is the first time that they are playing a global tournament solely on merit, so the qualification itself is a giant achievement.
Switzerland eased through their qualifiers with an unbeaten record (W4, D2) and are looking to do better than their round of 16 appearance in the last edition. Can the Swiss underline their credentials in the group with a winning start? Read more for our analysis, team news, and match predictions.

Qatar - Switzerland: Form Analysis
Qatar's preparations for the tournament were hit as their friends against Argentina and Serbia in the March window were canceled due to the Iran war. They drew 0-0 with El Salvador and lost 1-0 to Ireland in the two pre-tournament friends, but that's hardly any preparation.
Those two results mean that Qatar have failed to win any of their last six matches (D2, L4). Four of those games saw them fail to score, which was also the case in two of the three group stage fixtures they played in the 2022 edition.
Qatar was the only host to crash out of a World Cup ever without a single point.
Switzerland will look to continue Qatar's wait for a point but will have to be more clinical. They come here with just one win from their four friends (D2, L1), although it was a comprehensive 4-1 victory over fellow World Cup-bound team Jordan.
While they struggled in the friends, the Swiss have managed to show their mettle in competitive games. They were unbeaten in their last six competitive matches (W4, D2), conceding only two goals and keeping four clean sheets.

Qatar & Switzerland Squad Analysis
Qatar have usually lined up in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, but against the Swiss, it could be with a single striker. Coach Julen Lopetegui has a lot of experience and has a point to prove after being sacked by Spain just before the 2018 World Cup started.
The key for Qatar would be the short-passing team, a trait that they picked up from the Spanish coaches. The challenge would be to stand up against technically superior sides, but all eyes and hopes will be on Akram Afif, who lines up behind the striker on the left flank.
Qatar have won 12 of the last 16 matches when Afif scored.
Switzerland's preparations were hit by the visa problems their star striker Breel Embolo had to go through. Fortunately, that is resolved now, and Embolo is set to lead the line for the 'Red Crosses.'
The Swiss used the 3-4-3 formation in the most recent Euros, but have been fluid enough to use a more familiar 4-3-3 in recent times. The presence of Granit Xhaka in the central midfield, plus the exciting Dan Ndoye on the left wing, gives them stability plus pace.

Our Qatar vs Switzerland Prediction
Switzerland have never gone beyond the quarter-final stage at a World Cup and while that may be difficult to change here, they are favorites to win Group B. Even otherwise, it is hard to see them stumble against Qatar, who have struggled in recent times even to score. Even at the last edition, which they hosted, Qatar could score just one goal and lost all three matches.
Going by Qatar's poor scoring record in recent times as well as in the World Cup competition, our Qatar vs Switzerland prediction is BTTS: No.
Qatar vs Switzerland Alternative Predictions
Switzerland wins
Qatar made history for all the wrong reasons in 2022 when they became the first hosting nation to crash out of a World Cup without winning a single point. Their preparation for this edition hasn't been ideal either, so backing Switzerland to win looks an ideal choice.
