Gambia have shocked all by reaching the knockout stages of the AFCON 2021 at the first time of asking, and they have a game against Guinea. Both these nations finished second in their respective groups, Guinea with four points and Gambia on seven points. Guinea won their opening game of this tournament, beating Malawi 1-0, but they have been declining since then. They are coming from a 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe having earlier drawn 0-0 with Senegal. Guinea however have three clean sheets in the last five matches and have failed to score in just two of these five matches. In their last five matches, Guinea have managed to score more than a goal in just one game, a 2-0 win over Rwanda in a warm up game ahead of this competition. Guinea pack up more experience than Gambia as far as AFCON is concerned but they have just two wins in their last 12 AFCON matches.

Gambia haven’t lost at AFCON 2021; in their three group matches, they registered two wins and a draw, while keeping two clean sheets. They have scored one or less in their last six matches and in their last 10 matches, only one game has produced over 2.5 goals. Gambia are playing at this level for the first time ever and have defied odds by getting here. Their draw for the last 16 doesn’t look like something to scare them and Gambia will be confident of bringing down their more favored opponents. They have six wins in their last 10 matches and will view this as a game they can win.
