La Vuelta - Stage 14 Predictions & Betting tips - International

It is back into the mountains for Stage 14 of La Vuelta and a day that should be one for the breakaway. There are three categorised climbs in the second half of the stage, saving the best for last, the Sierra de la Pandera. This course could be tailor made for Tobias Halland Johannessen.

Johannessen was runner-up on Stage 7 when he was part of an attack. That stage finished at the summit of a Category 1 climb, the same as this does. He has faded out of things on the last couple of stages but that could well be down to him conserving some energy.

Without a leading contender for outright glory, Visma have done a great job of stage hunting. They have four so far but are yet to unleash Sepp Kuss. He attacked a couple of times late on the Tour de France for a third and fourth-place finish. He would be fascinating in a break. 

One climber who looks sure to be in the escape group is Santiago Buitrago. The current King of the Mountains leader will be looking for at least some early points on the pair of Category Two climbs, and is more than capable of playing a leading role up the final one as well. 

Of course, Movistar could want to dominate the main peloton for their man Enric Mas who is the current leader of the race. He looks the pick of the bunch but whether they have the depth to chase down a strong break is up for debate.
