Matchday 3 in the English Premier League sees ninth-place Brighton taking on eighth-place Leeds. It’s been a solid start to the 2026-27 season for both teams; Brighton will be looking to win both of their home matches in the Premier League for the first time ever, while Leeds are targeting two straight away wins to open a top-flight campaign for the first time since the 70s.
Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton have undergone a frantic start to the new league season, with the goals flying in left and right. This is despite a number of injuries to key first-team players, and it’s impressive the level that the Seagulls have started at.
For a club as storied as Leeds, it may come as a surprise to learn that it’s the Amex Stadium which has seen them struggle the most. The Whites have failed to win in 10 visits to this ground (D3, L7), eight of which have seen them blank on the scoresheet. Will Leeds be able to break their Amex hoodoo? In what early signs suggest might be a watered-down ‘unstoppable force meets an immovable object' scenario, our prediction sees these sides potentially canceling each other out.

Brighton - Leeds: Form Analysis
It’s been an eventful season for Brighton so far. They battered Aston Villa 4-0 at home in the league opener, a result which was sandwiched between a 4-0 aggregate qualifying victory over Tromso for the Conference League.
Last weekend, Brighton were involved in a wild 4-3 match with Chelsea, of which at one point saw them trailing 3-0.
The Seagulls have been possession monsters to start the campaign, and they’ve certainly played their share of attractive football as well. Goals have been the theme of Brighton’s matches so far; the hosts have scored 11 times in their last three appearances.
Brighton have averaged a staggering 73.6% possession across their first two matches, the highest in the EPL.
Leeds come into this fixture off the back of a 1-1 home draw with Brentford, with Calvert-Lewin grabbing the equalizer in the 79th minute.
It extends Leeds unbeaten run to start the season after a pair of victories over Nottingham Forest: 1-0 away in the league to start the season, and a 2-0 away win over the Tricky Trees in the EFL Cup.
United have been incredibly tight at the back to start the campaign, ranking fifth in the league for expected goals against (2.3), although their attack has suffered as a result. The visitors have accumulated only 1.9 xG and one big chance created over their first two league matches.

Brighton & Leeds Squad Analysis
Brighton have started brightly in the face of some real injury concerns. They’ll be without no fewer than seven players for the visit of Leeds, among them key first-team players such as: Jack Hinshelwood, Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter.
Hinshelwood, in particular, will be a huge miss. The 21-year-old kicked off the campaign with a brace against Aston Villa, but picked up in injury in training after the match.
Jack Hinshelwood has been a revelation in the #10 role, but faces a few more weeks sidelined.
Since taking up the central attacking midfield role at the end of last season, Hinshelwood has recorded an average of 0.53 xG per 90 (over his last 10 matches).
As for the away side, manager Daniel Farke has his own defensive headache to worry about. Joe Rodon will be unavailable for the next few matches as he recovers from a hamstring injury suffered in the 1-1 draw with Brentford.
Rodon had experienced a positive start to the season and Leeds were looking assured at the back with the trio of Rodon, Bijol, and new record signing Muharemovic.
The former Sassuolo man Muharemovic is already looking a good bit of business as he’s gotten better with each start so far. Farke will likely turn to another new signing in Nico Elvedi to continue his three at the back system.

Our Brighton vs Leeds Prediction
A fascinating matchup awaits us on the south coast between a Brighton attack scoring for fun and a Leeds side that makes it extremely difficult for their opponents. However, we might see the injuries catch up to the Seagulls here as they’re without some of their most explosive attacking players.
Leeds have so far been able to limit Nottingham Forest to zero goals in two matches and contained a high-flying Brentford side to just a single goal in their most recent outing. Our Brighton vs Leeds prediction: under 2.5 goals.
Brighton vs Leeds Alternative Predictions
Draw
These two sides appear fairly evenly matched on paper. Brighton have been excelling with their attack despite some key absences, while Leeds have thrived more on the defensive side. We believe they’ll ultimately wind up cancelling each other out with 1-1 a likely scoreline.
