Saturday’s Premier League fixture list wraps up with third-place Hull City hosting bottom-placed Aston Villa. It's a tale of contrasting fortunes, with the roles seemingly reversed so far for these two teams through two matchdays.
It’s been a dream start for Hull City, who scraped their way to the English top flight via the Championship play-offs. They beat a Middlesbrough side reinstated into the final after Southampton's 'Spygate' scandal saw the Saints expelled from the play-off entirely. Many have predicted Hull to finish bottom in the 2026-27 campaign, and while that very well may still happen, the Tigers are certainly off to a blistering start with six points from six.
Aston Villa have experienced the complete opposite. Finishing fourth last season, the Villans saw their formidable squad gutted over the summer, forcing an immediate and drastic rebuild. Unai Emery has already brought in 10 new signings and the team is clearly still in the beginning stages of bedding everyone in. Our prediction, therefore, targets the visitors as the latest victim to get ‘‘mauled by the Tigers’.

Hull - Aston Villa: Form Analysis
Hull fans likely had to pinch themselves two weeks ago when they opened the Premier League season with a 2-0 home win over Manchester United. Building on that success, Hull then faced a relegation six-pointer in their last fixture and they did marvelously to walk away with all three points.
They were on the back foot for long periods of time in that match, conceding 68% possession to their opponent. However, the Tigers began to threaten on the counter attack in the second half and were decisive when it mattered most. Breaking after a Coventry corner, it was Liam Millar that was played through one-on-one and he calmly tucked it away for the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute.
Victory for Hull would see them become only the second ever promoted side to start with three straight wins.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Aston Villa fans will be desperate for their side to stop the bleeding here. They were embarrassed by Brighton to open the campaign, giving up four goals in the first half hour of play and having a player sent off en route to a 4-0 away loss.
Things wouldn’t get any easier for Emery’s bunch as they then had to face off against the defending champions. Arsenal completely nullified the Villa attack, holding them to just 0.33 xG and without a single shot on target as the Claret and Blue lost 1-0 at home.

Hull & Aston Villa Squad Analysis
Unai Emery will still be without a number of potentially important first team players. Among them the exciting and imposing young striker Brian Madjo, as well as Johan Manzambi, the highly-coveted talent that signed from Freiburg this summer.
Amadou Onana is a long-term absence with an ACL injury, while another new signing, Joao Gomes, is unavailable as he serves his red card suspension.
Nicolas Jackson will once again lead the line, but will need far better service than what he got against Arsenal. Jackson failed to record a single shot in that match and only registered one touch in the opposition box.
Villa is undergoing a complete squad overhaul and have spent £250+ million this summer!
What's made Hull City's start all the more remarkable is the fact that manager Sergej Jakirovic is dealing with a major injury crisis, robbing the team of a lot of its depth. No fewer than 10 players are listed as either out or doubtful, including centre back Charlie Hughes and forward Joe Gelhardt.
Oliver McBurnie will be one of the Hull players to keep an eye on. The 30-year-old striker had a productive 18 goal, seven assist season in the Championship last season and his physicality and duel-winning has already caused teams problems this season.
With 16 duels and nine aerial duels won, McBurnie ranks among the top in those categories for strikers.

Our Hull vs Aston Villa Prediction
Despite their purple patch and Villa’s nightmare start, Hull once again come into their match as underdogs. But with the support at the MKM Stadium behind them and an out-of-sorts Aston Villa side, this looks like the perfect opportunity for the in-form hosts to capitalise.
Hull City will stick to the low-block, high-intensity gameplan that's worked so far, content to cede possession and strike through McBurnie and quick transitions, while there's simply too much uncertainty and unfamiliarity with the visitors at this moment in time to confidently back them. Our Hull City vs Aston Villa prediction: Hull or draw.
