16th-place Fulham play host to 18th-place Crystal Palace in this Premier League matchday 3 London derby fixture. It’s been a rude welcome to the English game for new managers Álvaro Arbeloa and Pierre Sage, as they each seek their first points of the season. Both sides have serious defensive concerns, with a combined 10 goals already allowed between them, and our prediction is centred around just that.
Indeed, it wouldn’t have been the start that either manager would have had in mind before the campaign kicked off. Arbeloa’s Cottagers are only slightly better off on goal difference at the moment, while Sage’s Eagles have already conceded six goals in their first two fixtures and find themselves in an early hole.
Crystal Palace have fared well in this matchup in recent years, which includes three wins from their last three visits here, two in the league and one in the FA Cup. In fact, you’d have to go back to 2016 to find the last time Palace have actually lost at Craven Cottage, and their fans would love nothing more than to continue that streak on Saturday. With a vital three points up for grabs, who will come out on top?

Fulham - Crystal Palace: Form Analysis
Palace might count themselves somewhat unlucky to start the season with a 2-0 away defeat to Everton. Sage’s side managed to triple Everton's open play expected goals count (0.62 to 1.96) and created four clear cut scoring chances to Everton’s one.
Things would go from bad to worse for the Eagles as they suffered a heavy 4-1 home defeat at the hands of last season’s runners-up Manchester City in their most recent outing. Sage certainly has his work cut out for him as he attempts to shore up the defence ahead of this London derby.
Fulham have allowed 4.3 xG and given up eight big scoring chances in their opening two matches.
Fulham kicked off their campaign with an entertaining 3-2 home loss to Chelsea before bouncing back with a 3-0 home victory over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
Arbeloa’s side was unable to build on that momentum, though, as they shrunk to a 1-0 away loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend. Six of Fulham’s 11 shots in that match came from the 84th minute and on as they desperately pushed for an equaliser that ultimately wasn’t to be.

Fulham & Crystal Palace Squad Analysis
The player to highlight for the hosts is former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia. The 22-year-old has had a positive start for the Cottagers, scoring in his EPL debut against Chelsea, before getting on the scoresheet once again in a 17-minute cameo in Fulham’s EFL Cup match against AFC Wimbledon.
Despite struggling against Sunderland, Garcia has still managed to fire off an average of 3.0 total shots per game in his three appearances so far. He’ll now face a vulnerable Palace defence at home.
Alvaro Arbeloa will be unable to call upon new loan signing Hugo Larsson, who was brought over from Frankfurt to beef up the midfield.
Jean-Philippe Mateta missed two gilt-edged chances in the opener vs Everton, which included smashing the post from a prime position.
The imposing French striker will, however, be absent for this match against Fulham, robbing the visitors of arguably their most dangerous attacking threat. Strand-Larsen will likely once again lead the line, but he’s hardly set the world alight since arriving in South London, scoring just four goals in 24 appearances all together.
Continuing the unfortunate news for Palace fans, their second most productive attacking player last season, Ismaila Sarr, will also miss out due to injury.
Crystal Palace’s chances could depend on the influence Adam Wharton is able to exert on the match. The 22-year-old midfielder ranks second in line-breaking passes per 90 (16.5) so far this season and he’s already created four chances in total, including two big scoring chances.

Our Fulham vs Crystal Palace Prediction
We should be in for a compelling match in West London on Saturday between two sides that will be desperate to get their seasons up and running with the full three points. Therefore, we’re expecting a good amount of attacking impetus from both sides.
Fulham’s attack, while stuttering last weekend, had previously shown some encouraging signs with Garcia up top. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, were unlucky not to score in their opener against Everton. Both sides also look to have some serious deficiencies in defence, which could be on display here. Our Fulham vs Crystal Palace prediction: BTTS.
Fulham vs Crystal Palace Alternative Predictions
Gonzalo Garcia 3+ shots
The former Real Madrid man has averaged 3 shots per game so far against Chelsea and Sunderland in 90 min starts. In his sub appearance vs Wimbledon in the EFL Cup, Garcia scored a goal in a 17 minute cameo, firing off 3 shots.
He’s very likely to play the full 90 minutes here, and is coming up against a Palace team that has been leaking goals. He should be able to get himself into some dangerous attacking positions and the team is set up to feed him.
Fulham wins
This is a match where it’s difficult to find much that is separating the two sides. Crystal Palace perhaps haven’t been quite as bad as their two scorelines would indicate, while Fulham will hope for a boost from the Craven Cottage faithful to boost them to their first league win of the campaign. The Cottagers posted an impressive 11-2-6 record at home last season, and for that reason, we give the edge to the hosts.
