The long wait is nearly over and in June, the European Championships will be held. We were looking forward to the championships last summer but it was not to be. The long wait will be worth it though as the best countries in Europe will be battling it out to become European champions.
Who do the bookmakers believe will win the title? They have been busy looking at all the form and coming up their odds for Euro 2020. Our betting experts have been doing lots of work too and they will be previewing each and every game this summer. Let's look at who the bookmakers have as favourites for this great tournament.
England Favourites with the Bookmakers
With odds of around 5/1, England are the bookmakers favourites for Euro 2020. Now the fact that the market is 6/1 the field shows how open a tournament this is.
One of the reasons England are favourites is the fact many of their games will be played on home soil. That's the case for their group games and the semi-finals and final are due to be played at Wembley. England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and also the last four of the Nations League two years ago. They didn't qualify for the 2021 Nations League finals but did get a win over Belgium in their group.
England are extremely strong up front with players such as Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling full of goals. Midfield is a good mixture of experience and youth. If there are any question marks over England, it's their defence and goalkeeper. They will put up a good show in this tournament, so a bet on them is well worth making.
France Chasing Another Title
Not since 2010 have France become the European champions. They are the defending world champions and have also qualified for the finals of the 2020/21 Nations League. The bookmakers have them battling England for the favourites spot and with some they are joint favourites.
They have a great squad and it would be no surprise if Kylian Mbappe was to be the star of Euro 2020. The main problem they have at present is a very difficult task in the group stages. They have to face defending champions Portugal and resurgant Germany. Hungary complete the group and they are no pushovers either. You can finish third in your group and still qualify for the knock-out stages so they should be ok. Even so, they will need to be on top form right from the start of this tournament.ot since 2000.
With players such as Griezmann, Pobga, Martial, Sissoke and Giroud, France will be a hard team to beat in Euro 2020. Betting on them could well pay a dividend.
Belgium Always to be Feared
Just a look at the Belgium squad shows you why bookmakers have Belgium as one of the favourites to win Euro 2020. They finished third in the last World Cup and have reached the finals of the 2020/21 Nations League. Their squad is the strongest that Belgium have ever had but that elusive title win still eludes them. Could Euro 2020 be when that finally changes?
Romelu Lukaku is to be feared up front and is having a great season with Inter in Serie A. Then there's the sublime Kevin De Bruyne, the Hazard brothers, Dries Mertens, Michy Batshuayi and even Cristian Benteke is scoring goals again. By the time this tournament begins, they will have seven players who have played over 80 internationalds and have five with at least ten goals. Belgium have a great chance of winning Euro 2020.
