LASK Linz and Slovan Bratislava have a big chance to claim precious points in the Champions League going into matchday four. The last round presented a mixed bag of fortunes for the two, as LASK posted a first-ever win in the UCL main draw. It wasn’t an ordinary win; the Austrian champions came from behind to beat Sporting Lisbon 3-2 away in Portugal.
That led to LASK finishing the round placed 24th in the standings. Meanwhile, Slovan Bratislava sank to the bottom of the table as one of the sides yet to earn a point following another heavy defeat.
Their poor away record in Europe came to the fore again as they fell 4-0 to Roma. The situation is so dire for the visitors, as they’ve so far faced the most shots (77) in the UCL while attempting the fewest (5). By these stats, our prediction will back a home win. Let’s look at the numbers.

LASK Linz - SK Slovan Bratislava: Form Analysis
LASK posted a record win on matchday three, as they beat Sporting Lisbon 3-2 in Portugal. It was a crucial one; not only their first this season, but in the UCL league phase. The victory was also a stunning response to the 1-0 defeat to AEK and 6-3 loss against Liverpool. They will be looking to make it two, coming off a 2-1 win against Tirol domestically.
There are a few corrections, though, that the Austrians need to make. Firstly, they have been conceding first in each of their CL matches. That may prove costly in Europe. Secondly, they rarely keep clean sheets; there’s only one recorded in their last 12 matches. In the Champions League context, that’s unsustainable.
Slovan have lost 11 of 12 away matches in the European Cup/UCL.
Slovan will be compiling their hosts’ weak areas and looking to shock them, but first, Yaya Toure must devise a formula to bag the points in this competition. Two years ago they finished without a point and this time again it seems headed there.
They’ve not only lost all their league phase matches so far but this season they’ve already conceded 13 times while scoring just once. No other team has conceded as much and scored so few. The Slovaks didn’t have any lucky pairing in the draws, but that’s not an excuse at this level. They’ve lost to champions PSG, German side Stuttgart, and most recently, Roma.

LASK Linz & SK Slovan Bratislava Squad Analysis
LASK should have a revitalized squad after resting key men during their weekend game. Sasa Kalajdzic was among the scorers as the team recorded the first-ever win in the UCL league stage. After being rested for their league game, he will be gunning for another goal here as we expect him to start.
Skipper Sascha Horvath was also rested and will be back to operate the midfield, while the fit again Moses Usor should slot in in attack. The Nigerian, back from a shoulder injury, scored once in the qualifying stage. However, the match comes too soon for George Bello and Ramiz Harakate, who are still recuperating from injury.
Former LASK defender Kevin Wimmer could face his former team if selected for Slovan.
At a time when Slovan Bratislava hopes to offer their best in attack, they travel to Austria with major doubts on key attackers. Andraz Sporar has been down with illness, while Roma Cerepkai had reported back pain.
Yaya Toure will subject them to late fitness tests. He may be forced to call upon Suleiman Camara and Nino Marcelli as replacements should the two fail to make it through.
