Euro 2020: Which Outsiders Should You be Betting On?
Croatia Could Reach Another Final
Croatia reached the final of the 2018 World Cup and could well spring a few surprises this summer. They won qualifying Group E to reach these finals, finishing ahead of Wales, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan. Their home form aided their success with all four games being won. Only one away game was won but as they showe in the last World Cup, they can get results on foreign soil when in top form.
Only one of their last eight internationals have been lost. They are in the same group as England, Czech Republic and one of the play-off winners. Qualifying from that group should be possible and if finishing as runners-up behind England, they'd face a likely last sixteen game against Sweden or Poland, again winnable. They have an experienced squad, particularly Modric and Rakitic in midfield. Striker Ivan Perisic has scored in their last two internationals, while Bruno Petkovic has scored five goals in his first eight internationals. You can get 25/1 on them to win Euro 2020.
A Swiss Surprise?
Switzerland reached the last four of the UEFA Nations League last year. They are a consistent side and one that's not thrilling to watch but often hard to beat. The Swiss won Group D to reach the finals, ahead of Denmark, the Republic of Ireland, Georgia and Gibraltar. They showed consistent form both at home and on their travels with only one defeat in the group (a 1-0 loss in Denmark).
Their group sees them up against Italy, Turkey and Wales in Group A, they should make it into the knock-out stages. The loss in Denmark is the only defeat they have had in the last six games with four clean sheets. A bet on them reaching the final has odds of 20/1.
A Giroud Goalfest this Summer?
Betting on Euro 2020 isn't just about which country will lift the trophy this summer? You can also bet on who the top goal scorer will be and Olivier Giraud is a good outside bet. Chelsea may not give him that many starts but he has a good international record.
He has played 97 internationals for France and scored 39 goals. That includes four in his last six and he's their penalty taker which helps. Only Michel Platini and Thierry Henry have scored more goals for France. Giroud needs just two goals to draw level with Platini. With six goals in the qualifying group, he could be a good outside bet for top scorer with odds of 20/1.
