The regional derby between Uganda and Tanzania is underway, with both teams aiming to register their first wins in the Africa Cup of Nations after poor starts. This is a Group C clash that is set to be held at Al Barid Stadium. Here's our match prediction.
Both Uganda and Tanzania are languishing in the bottom two of the Group C standings with zero points to their name. It was an unfortunate start to either side as they dropped three points against Africa's elite in Nigeria and Tunisia.
This matchup presents an opportunity for either side to register an important win if they are to keep their hopes of progressing beyond the group stages alive. The nation with a high probability of securing a win in this fiery encounter has to be Uganda. The Cranes have been dominant in this fixture in the past years, winning ten of their last 19 meetings. Can the Cranes bag the bragging rights in this crucial encounter?

Uganda - Tanzania: Form Analysis
Uganda was already slated for failure before the ball was even kicked in their opening match in Group C against Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Cranes did put up a fight in that match, but their efforts proved futile in the end as they suffered a convincing 3-1 defeat. Denis Omedi scored a consolation goal for his side in the dying embers of the game.
Paul Put's men enter matchday two, aiming for maximum points. However, the route to achieving that won't be an easy one, having lost two of their last three competitive matches.
Tanzania are winless in ten AFCON finals. Will they be able to stop this unwanted run in the regional derby?
Tanzania was also unfortunate in their AFCON opener as they had to prove their worth against a resilient Nigeria side. However, there's no denying that they gave the three-time champions a difficult time, registering 11 shots at goal.
In the end, their profligacy turned out to be their undoing, suffering a 2-1 defeat with Charles M'Mombwa's equalizer serving as consolation amidst a narrow setback.
That result extended their winless run in the Africa Cup of Nations to ten games. During this period, they recorded seven losses and three draws. It's worth noting they've gone eight matches without a win, including a five-match losing streak.

Uganda & Tanzania Squad Analysis
Uganda have no fresh injury concerns to be worried about heading into Saturday's clash against Tanzania.
Head coach Paul Put is unlikely to tamper with the starting lineup that suffered a 3-1 defeat to Tunisia. This means we could see Stephen Mukwala lead the attack in a 4-4-1-1 format.
Mukwala has made 28 appearances for the senior national team and has scored just two goals. Can he add a third international goal to his tally this Saturday?
Ally Samatta has never scored for the Tanzanian senior national team in a competitive match since 2022.
Tanzania are in a similar position when it comes to injuries, with nothing much to be worried about. We could see a similar setup with head coach Hemed Suleiman opting for a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Charles M'Mombwa scored the equalizer in the defeat to Nigeria. That extended his goal tally for the senior national team to four in 14 appearances. M'Mombwa is expected to take up the central midfield role once again, and all eyes will be on the rising talent to deliver.
Leading the attack is the veteran Ally Samatta, who is still searching for his first competitive goal since 2022. Will Samatta break his goal drought in this impending encounter?

Our Uganda vs Tanzania Prediction
Uganda have been dominant in this fixture in the past years. The Cranes have won ten of their last 19 matches against Tanzania. There's reason to believe they might edge a narrow win in this fixture, considering their opponents' poor form.
Tanzania are not in good shape and could be in danger of suffering a consecutive defeat at AFCON, which could mark the end of their journey. This is a nation that has failed to win its last ten games in this competition, making it difficult to support them here. Our Uganda vs Tanzania Prediction: Uganda wins.
