Egypt and South Africa go head-to-head in their second fixture at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025. Both sides began their campaign in style, registering their first three points in Group B, and head into this clash set to take place at Adrar Stadium tied on points in the standings. Here's our match prediction.

Egypt needs no introduction in this competition, as this has been their playground in past years. Having clinched the title a record seven times, their hunger knows no limits as they aim to add to their trophy cabinet an eighth title. The last time they lifted the trophy was in 2015.

South Africa are not one to be intimidated despite being faced with a powerhouse in African football. Surprisingly, Bafana Bafana have the upper hand in this fixture, having won eight of their last 14 matches against Egypt. Considered to be among the favorites for the AFCON 2025, will they be able to see off the threat of Egypt here?

Egypt - South Africa: Form Analysis

Egypt had a difficult time against Zimbabwe in their opening AFCON 2025 match. Despite boasting the meanest offense in the competition in Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, they were wasteful in the final third.

They registered a whopping 32 shots, with 11 shots being on target. In the end, they could only manage a narrow 2-1 victory with Mohamed Salah scoring the winner in the dying embers of the game.

The Pharaohs will aim to be more clinical this time around as they face a South Africa side whom they hold a slight advantage over, with two wins in the three AFCON meetings (L1).

Bafana Bafana have won their last two matches against North African nations in the Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa also began their AFCON 2025 campaign with a 2-1 win over Angola. After having a shaky performance, Lyle Foster scored a winner for his nation in the 79th minute.

It's worth noting that this marked Bafana Bafana's first win in an opening game. The last time they achieved this feat was in 2004, when they beat Benin 2-0.

Hugo Broos' charges will be hoping to record their second straight win in Group B. That shouldn't be too big a task to accomplish, considering they've avoided defeat in their last six meetings against Egypt (W4, D2). This highlights the psychological edge they have over this opponent.

Egypt & South Africa Squad Analysis

Egypt might not boast a star-studded lineup in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, but this is a side that has the best offense of any other team in the league. Their offense is being led by Premier League stars Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah, playing for Manchester City and Liverpool, respectively.

Mohamed Salah, who was recently under the spotlight because of his deteriorating form for Liverpool, stepped up in the crucial moments to score a dramatic winner for his nation. He has now scored eight goals in 20 AFCON appearances.

Mohamed Salah is averaging 0.6 goals for Egypt per 90 minutes.

Hugo Broos won't tamper with the starting lineup that secured a 2-1 win over Angola in the opening AFCON 2025 match. This means we could see Lyle Foster and Sipho Mbule lead the attack.

In defense, Mbekezile Mbokazi will form a partnership with Siyabonga Ngezana. Ngezana had an uneven performance punctuated by moments of sheer brilliance. He had an 85% accurate pass rate and made six accurate passes in the final third from ten attempted passes.

Oswin Appollis is a player to watch out for this Friday. The 24-year-old opened the scoring for his team last time out, meaning he has scored three goals in his last four competitive appearances for the senior national team.

Our Egypt vs South Africa Prediction

Egypt might be the most decorated nation in the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Zimbabwe proved they are not untouchable in their opening match by scoring a goal. The Pharaohs were caught napping in defense, and the same can be expected in this group's highly anticipated clash.

South Africa might be the underdogs, but this is a side that has won their last two meetings against North African giants Morocco and Egypt. Their clinical finishing could be a game-changer, having scored in each of their last four matches. Our Egypt vs South Africa prediction: South Africa to score over 0.5 goals.

Egypt have seen both teams score in each of their last two matches. The fact that they conceded a goal against Zimbabwe, who lack the attacking output in this competition, suggests they'll concede another against a clinical South Africa.
