Jack Draper and Thanasi Kokkinakis, both unseeded, will meet in the first round at the Los Cabos Open. Thanasi Kokkinakis is seeking to get a hold of his season and move towards possessing a winning record. The Australian has started the season unconvincingly and currently has lost more matches than he has won. He has compiled a 3-4 record with all seven matches being played on hard courts. As he has had considerable success in this event in the past, he will be confident of a positive start. Kokkinakis finished as runner-up here in 2017. The 27-year-old’s struggles this year have led to him dropping out of the ATP top 100. He is currently ranked 103rd in the live ranking after plummeting a massive 24 places. Kokkinakis is coming off a first-round exit in Delray.

Jack Draper defeated Kokkinakis six months ago in the Davi Cup. This was their first and only encounter and saw him come from a set down to win. He will seek a similar outcome to mark a winning start in his debut in this event. The Brit is making his return to the tour after a month away. His last match was in the second round in Melbourne. Draper has had a strong start to the year and has so far won five of seven matches. Four of those wins were achieved in his run to the Adelaide final, his second tour final appearance. Draper has started the week ranked 53rd in the ATP. The winner here will play either Roman Safiullin or Daniel Evans for a place in the quarterfinals.
