Leeds head to the south coast of England to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium for the second matchweek of the Premier League. These teams have undergone very different starts to the 2022/23 campaign; Southampton suffering a heavy 4-1 away defeat to Tottenham while Leeds came back from being a goal down early to claim the full three points in a 2-1 win against Wolves. This is an interesting matchup between two managers who came through the Red Bull coaching pipeline and have very similar footballing philosophies. Both Ralph Hasenhüttl and Jesse Marsch prioritize the modern German approach, full of high-pressing and quick transitions. The tactical battle between the two should result in an entertaining, high-scoring affair.

Leeds are dealing with a few injury problems, most notably missing out on new signing Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord. They’ll also be without defenders Junior Firpo and Luke Ayling, as well as utility player Stuart Dallas after the 31-year-old suffered a horrific leg break at the end of last season. Southampton have a mostly clean bill of health but will be without the services of Theo Walcott here. We’ll see if Hasenhüttl decides to stick with the same team that suffered a heavy loss against Spurs while it would be a surprise to see Jesse Marsch make any major changes to the side that beat Wolves.
