The 2026/27 English Premier League (EPL) season’s best defense will come up against the joint-best attack as Hull travel to Chelsea on matchday four. This match at Stamford Bridge between the 4th-placed ‘Blues’ and the 3rd-placed ‘Tigers’ could be an interesting battle of contrasting philosophies with BTTS our match prediction.
Ahead of this round, Chelsea’s six points (W2, L1) put them just three points behind leaders Manchester City. Hull have seven points (W2, D1) and are one of the eight sides yet to lose this season. Chelsea’s attack will be under focus, as they look to add to their joint-high tally of eight goals in the EPL campaign.
Hull have struggled for goals but are the league’s best defensive side, having kept three clean sheets out of three. While that would come under pressure from the exceptional Chelsea attack, Hull won’t be a pushover. Could this lead to an unexpected outcome this weekend? Chelsea - Hull: Form Analysis
Chelsea are coming off a thumping 6-3 home win over Leeds in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, but not without hiccups. They went 2-0 behind and needed a vintage performance from Cole Palmer (two goals) and Morgan Rogers (three assists) to turn the tables.
They need this confidence to overturn the 2-1 loss away at Arsenal in the league last weekend. A 4-3 win over Brighton here started their home campaign in the Premier League, which is part of a four-game winning sequence at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine home league games.
Hull were beaten 1-0 away at Sunderland to crash out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday. However, the promoted side are flying high in the Premier League; after a 0-0 home draw last week, they extended their unbeaten start.
They haven’t yet conceded a goal in the Premier League, although extending that sequence could be a challenge against the free-scoring Londoners. Hull’s only away league game this season ended in a 1-0 win against fellow promoted side Coventry.

Chelsea & Hull Squad Analysis
Moises Caicedo missed Chelsea’s last league game against Arsenal but could return here. Jordan Henderson and Emmanuel Emegha are still not fully fit to be considered for selection here. Levi Colwill was substituted against Leeds in the EFL Cup, but coach Xabi Alonso confirmed it wasn’t an injury.
The Blues are likely to retain their 3-4-3 formation with Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer, and Morgan Rogers forming the attacking trio. All three have scored two goals each in the Premier League so far!
Rogers has two goals and four assists in five competitive games.
Hull have a lengthy absence list. Brooke Norton-Cuffy missed their EFL game and could be out of contention here too. Timothy Iroegbunam, Paddy McNair, and Jack Butland are among those also set to miss out, along with a host of others.
The Tigers could stick to their 5-4-1 formation to stifle the midfield and defend strong against the Blues. That would lay the mantle of scoring on the lone striker Oliver McBurnie, who is yet to score for Hull this season.

Our Chelsea vs Hull Prediction
It has been an exceptional start to the season for Hull, who are yet to concede a goal! While that’s difficult to sustain, especially against a rampaging Chelsea side, Hull will fancy their chances of frustrating the hosts. The Tigers have scored three goals this season and could fancy adding to that count, while Chelsea will be looking to add multiple goals looking at the talent in that squad. The Blues also have the joint-highest scoring record of this campaign, so they are likely to net.
Chelsea may be stretched here, and our Chelsea vs Hull prediction is BTTS.
Chelsea vs Hull Alternative Predictions
Chelsea wins
Hull have been the surprise package of the season, but Stamford Bridge may prove to be a step too far. Chelsea have the form and squad to win here and avoid any mishaps.
Morgan Rogers Over 0.5 Assists
Morgan Rogers was a great summer addition for the Blues, and he comes here on the back of a hat-trick of assists in the EFL Cup game on Thursday. With his best friend Cole Palmer feeding off his service, Rogers will fancy adding another assist here.
