Fourth seed Jannik Sinner will play the unseeded Mackenzie McDonald on Wednesday to begin his Paris Masters campaign. The winner will then play either Dusan Lajovic or Alex de Minaur. Jannik Sinner is coming off a title triumph in Vienna. The Italian defeated defending champion Daniil Medvedev to win his second title in his last three tournaments. Sinner has been the man to beat on the tour in the last couple of months. He is, therefore, one of the favourites to be the last man left standing in Paris. The current world number four has defeated McDonald in their previous two encounters. Sinner has already secured a place in next month’s ATP Finals in Turin.

Mackenzie McDonald came back from a set down in the first round to defeat compatriot J.J Wolf. The win was his first in the main draw at Paris in what is his second appearance at this stage. McDonald has had varied success in Masters tournaments this year. He made the quarterfinals in Toronto to record his best-ever result at such tournaments and will hope for a similar run here. The American, though struggling with inconsistency, is having a strong season by his standards. He has recorded 35 victories thus far and it is only the fourth time he has done so in his career. McDonald, ranked 41st in the live ranking, has won four of the six matches he has contested on indoor hard courts.
