Scotland Women will take on Northern Ireland Women in an international friendly on Friday at the Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park. Currently ranked 25th according to FIFA standings, Scotland come into this match following a disappointment in their last competitive tournament, the 2023 Pinatar Cup, where they came third among four teams which included Iceland, Wales, and the Philippines. In the three-match round-robin competition, the Scots recorded one win, one draw, and one loss, finishing a point behind 32nd-ranked Wales and the eventual winners Iceland. Scotland will not be participating in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup later this month, having failed to qualify. They came second in Group B behind Spain but lost in the playoff finals against the Republic of Ireland. Over their last six matches, Scotland have won four, drawn one, and lost one, though it is worth noting that three of their four wins were in international friendlies. Still, they are unbeaten in their last four and will be looking for a solid performance here as they build toward the UEFA Women’s Nations League in September. 

Northern Ireland will also not be attending the World Cup later this month, but unlike their opponents, they did not make it to the knockout stages of qualifying. They were drawn in Group D, which was won by England, Austria was sent to the knockout rounds, while Northern Ireland finished third. Currently ranked 45th, Northern Ireland have recorded three wins and three losses in their last six matches. However, prior to beating Luxembourg last September, they were on a seven-match losing streak dating back to February last year. Over the last decade, these sides have met six times, and Northern Ireland have lost every match, conceding 16 and scoring just two in that time. They will likely find it difficult in this one.
