The last time Norwich played in the Championship they finished top. However, this time they’ve had a losing return and go into their second game of the season at home to Wigan hoping to recover from their opening loss to Cardiff City. Norwich are 20th after their 1-0 loss to Cardiff and face Wigan who are 17th with one point. The hosts’ recent outings haven’t been quite fruitful; they lost their final two preseason matches before falling to Cardiff. They’ve failed to score in the last three matches and in their last eight competitive matches, Norwich haven’t registered a win; they’ve actually lost seven. In their last four matches against Wigan they haven’t lost and will hope they can carry on here. Grant Hanley will be suspended for this game after receiving a red card in the league opener but Marcelino Nunez will have his first chance after sealing the move from Universidad Catolica.

Wigan secured their place in the Championship after finishing top in League One and they will be hoping to secure another promotion. Their start wasn’t bad, playing to a 0-0 draw with Preston North End and this will offer them a chance to improve. In the run up to this game, Wigan haven’t lost in the last eight outings. They have six wins and four clean sheets in that period and though they play away from home, they will be confident of getting a good result here. In this match Wigan will be without defender Jack Whatmough who suffered a first half injury in the opening game. They have no loss in the last five away matches and they’ve failed to score in just one of their last 10 away matches.
