Naomi Osaka makes her long-awaited tour return and will battle unseeded Tamara Korpatsch at the Brisbane International tournament. The two will battle in the first round with the winner advancing to play 16th seed Karolina Pliskova. Naomi Osaka is back on the tennis court after a 15-month hiatus. The two-time Grand Slam champion was last on the court in September of 2022 in Tokyo. She will be hoping to make a strong return in preparation for the upcoming Australian Open. Osaka’s time off was due to her becoming a mother for the first time. The Japan national has compiled a 169-79 record on outdoor hard courts. She won 13 of 20 games on the surface in the 2022 campaign.

Tamara Korpatsch won the title in Cluj last time out to end the 2023 campaign stunningly. It was her maiden WTA tour crown and she will be hoping to ride the momentum even though this was back in October. The German ended the season with a career-high ranking of 71st thanks to her Cluj success. Currently, though, she arrives for this tournament in 84th place. Korpatsch compiled a 10-14 record on hard courts last season. Aside from her win in Cluj, she also made two semifinal finishes in Valencia and Prague. This will be the first time that Korpatsch and Osaka will go head to head.
