Morocco and Gabon will face off in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Friday evening. The Atlas Lions are unbeaten in their last three matches against this opponent, and our prediction is that they will win this one fairly comfortably.
Morocco are the reigning AFCON champions after the CAF Appeal Board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final of the last edition in January this year.
The Atlas Lions are returning to action for the first time since the 2026 World Cup, where they produced another impressive display by reaching the quarter-finals before losing to France.
That loss to Les Bleus brought an end to Morocco’s incredible 34-match unbeaten run dating back to July 2025.
Meanwhile, Gabon will be hoping for a better AFCON campaign in this edition. They bowed out of the 2025 tournament in the group stage after losing all three of their matches in succession.
The Panthers’ last match ended in a 3-2 victory on penalties against Trinidad and Tobago at the FIFA Series in March. They have now failed to win any of their last six matches in all competitions in regulation time.
The visitors have won four of their last five away matches in all competitions, but they are winless in their last three encounters against their upcoming opponents (D1 L2).
