Third seed Ben Shelton begins his Dallas Open campaign in round two. He received a bye through to this round and now takes on unseeded Michael Mmoh. A quarter final against either seventh seed Jordan Thompson, lucky loser Denis Kudla or unseeded Radu Albot. Shelton is the world number 16 and that's only one place below the career high position he was in last October. He's reached one semi-final this year. That was in Auckland where he was beaten by Taro Daniel who is a possible semi-final opponent in this tournament.  Shelton lost in the last 32 of the Australian Open and this is his first match since the defeat by Adrian Mannarino.

Michael Mmoh is looking to build on his good run in Montpellier last week. He made it to the last eight of the Open de Sud France, winning two matches before losing in straight sets to top seed Holger Rune. That took him up to 115th in the rankings but he was a career high 81st last September. Before his success in France, Mmoh had only won one of his four matches in 2024 and lost in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open. The first round of this hard court tournament saw him beat qualifier Emilo Nava in straight sets. He's now 105th in the live rankings and can rise another place if beating Shelton. There's been one previous match between the pair and Shelton won that hard court match in straight sets. We tip Shelton to win this match.
