Marseille had a respectable push last season, finishing second in Ligue 1 but 15 points behind champions PSG and will be hoping for a better season. They start their season with a home match against Reims and will need a really good start after a poor run in preseason. Marseille managed just one win in their five preseason matches. They failed to score in three of the last four matches and lost those three games. Going into their opening game without a clean sheet in the five preseason games will definitely leave defensive worries, and especially the fact that they conceded two or more in three of them.
Reims have no win in their last four meetings with Marseille; they’ve lost twice in that period but go into this game having failed to score in just their last meeting out of the earlier five. Basically, both teams have scored in three of five when these two sides have met. Reims didn’t finish their preseason activities on a high; they drew 2-2 with Sassuolo in their last game, having earlier lost 1-0 to Villarreal. In Ligue 1 action, Reims have no clean sheet in their last five matches, and two times in the last three games they’ve conceded two goals or more.
