Jakub Mensik will face off with Matteo Gigante in a second-round match at the Rome Masters. This will be the two players’ first meeting, and the winner proceeds to meet Fabian Marozsan or Andrey Rublev. Read on for our prediction.

Mensik got a bye to this round and will seek to benefit from the extended rest. The Czech youngster had an impressive run to the quarter-finals at the Madrid Masters.

He would get eliminated by the experienced Francisco Cerundolo in three sets. Having played majorly on the tour, Mensik has compiled a 20-9 record. He will be looking to improve on his clay run that stands at 3-2.

Gigante has spent most of his time in the Challenger events and is even coming off a title run at the Rome Challenger.

That should have helped him prepare for the Rome Masters, as he had the gas to go over two hours and beat the more experienced Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets.

He needed tiebreakers in both sets, registering only his second main draw win in four matches at the tour level. Six of Gigante’s last seven matches had three sets played, and three, apart from his first-round win here, required tiebreakers.

Such lengthy times on the court could affect his chances against Mensik.
