Italy hosts world champions South Africa this weekend. The home side will be hoping to build on last weekend’s win over Australia. Can they beat the world champions? Time for our match prediction.
Italy beat Australia 26-19 last weekend after trailing by three points at half-time. That victory ended a run of two losses on tour to South Africa in July. The Italians were beaten 42-24 in the first of those matches but then lost the second 45-0.
South Africa won in France last weekend. The Springboks won by 13 points but were a point down at the break. That was their fifth consecutive victory and followed a 61-7 home win over Japan.
The three previous wins had come in New Zealand (a stunning 43-10 victory) and two against Argentina, as they finished top of the table in the Rugby Championship. Italy have only won one of their 18 previous matches against South Africa. That win came at home ten years ago.
Five in a row have been lost since then. Will that become six? The Springboks have made 11 changes to the team that beat France last weekend. South Africa's squad is so strong and we tip them to win on a -12.5 handicap.
