Fourth seed Elena Rybakina has advanced to the Stuttgart Open final and will play unseeded Marta Kostyuk for the title. This will be their third career meeting and the first as a championship match. Elena Rybakina has advanced to her fifth final of the season. The seven-time tour champion has won two titles so far this year and is highly favoured to win here. Rybakina defeated two time defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals in three sets. This marked her 25th win in 29 outings this season. Before this season, Rybakina had never gone past the second round in two appearances in Stuttgart. The world number four defeated Kostyuk the last time they met. This was last season at the US Open.

Marta Kostyuk won the first time she squared off with Rybakina at a WTA event. This was also last year in Adelaide. Going back to junior level, the Ukrainian claimed a three-set win in this fixture at the Australian Open in 2017. She will hope to rise to the occasion again and win a second tour crown. Kostyuk isn’t as experienced at tour finals as Rybakina and is playing in only her third final. She won her first in Austin last season but finished as runner-up in San Diego earlier this year. Both finals took place on outdoor hard courts. Kostyuk has defeated a seeded player each time she has taken to the court in Stuttgart. Fifth seed Qinwen Zheng was the first to fall and then third seed Cori Gauff. Sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova was defeated in straight sets in the semi-finals. The 21-year-old has moved up to 21st in the live ranking which is a career high placing.
