Felix Auger-Aliassime will continue his title defence on Friday afternoon when he takes on the former world number one Daniil Medvedev in what should be an enthralling matchup of the APT Rotterdam tournament. Auger-Aliassime announced himself as a truly world-class player in this tournament last year by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and then went on to add another three titles to his belt toward the end of the year, winning in Florence, Basel, and Antwerp. However, 2023 has proven to be a bit of a struggle for the Canadian star to date. After bowing out of the Adelaide International in the first round, Auger-Aliassime followed up with another poor display in the Australian Open, losing to Jiri Lehecka in the Round of 16. Having already recorded straight-set wins over Lorenzo Sonego and Gregoire Barrere, Auger-Aliassime will see this as the perfect opportunity to bounce back to his best and secure another title. 

Meanwhile, the former US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev made a very strong start this year, reaching the semi-finals of the Adelaide Internation tournament, where he was beaten by the eventual winner, Novak Djokovic, in straight sets. Medvedev then went into the Australian Open looking in good rhythm, but after a couple of good displays, he was unable to overcome the resilient Sebastian Korda, who knocked him out of the third round with a straight-sets victory. The world number 11 slipped up momentarily in his first match of this tournament, conceding the first set of the tournament to Alejandro Fokina, but then came romping back in the next two sets to secure the victory (4-6, 6-2, 6-2), and went on to deliver another dominant display in the last match against van der Zandschulp (6-2, 6-2) which sealed his quarter-final berth.
