Third seed Cori Gauff goes up against the unseeded Olga Danilovic in the second round at the Australian Open. This will be their first career meeting, and the winner takes on Strom Sanders or Hailey Baptiste for a place in the fourth round. Below is our prediction for the match.

Cori Gauff defeated Kamila Rakhimova in straight sets in the first round. It was her fourth win in five outings in 2026 and continued a streak of not losing a first-round tie in Melbourne to four events.

The American, who has dropped one spot to fourth in the live ranking, has qualified for the second week in the last three seasons here. Last year, she finished in the quarter-finals, a season after a career-best semi-final run.

Olga Danilovic recorded her best-ever finish at the Australian Open a year ago. In only her second appearance after successive years of qualifying round eliminations, the Serb produced a fourth-round finish.

She will be hoping for at least a similar run, and making a winning return this week will have her confident of an upset. Danilovic, however, had a shaky time against the veteran wildcard Venus Williams in the first round.

Danilovic lost the first set through a tiebreak and won via a decider in two hours and 19 minutes. The 24-year-old, who has won three of four matches to start the season, has, however, dropped 14 places in the live ranking to 83rd.
