by Kennedy Kechula in Tennis Predictions
Top seed Beatriz Haddad Maia will start off her Jiangxi Open debut campaign on Tuesday against unseeded Nao Hibino. The winner of this first-round match will then play either unseeded Kimberly Birrell or the qualifier Wei Sijia. Beatriz Haddad Maia has been lackluster in 2023. She has so far compiled a 31-21 record and her performances have threatened her position in the WTA top 20. The Brazilian number one is currently ranked 19th in the live ranking. Maia, whose highlight of the campaign is a semifinal finish at Roland Garros, has lost four of her last eight matches. She was defeated in the second round in Hong Kong in her last match.
Nao Hibino rose from the qualifying rounds to make the first round at Zhengzhou in her last tournament. The two wins there, had ended a run of five straight defeats. Hibino has also had a topsy-turvy 2023 season and currently has won 10 more matches than she has lost. The 28-year-old, who is up two places to 91st in the live ranking, has compiled a 37-27 record. She has registered 24 of her victories on hard courts. Hibino impressively won the Prague Open back in August as a lucky loser and will hope to challenge for the title here. The Japanese number one was a finalist the last time she played in Nanchang six years ago.
