Estadio Metropolitano will come to life for the first time in the 2025-26 La Liga season on Saturday when Atletico Madrid play host to Elche. Los Colchoneros and Los Franjiverdes are 15th and ninth in the league standings, respectively, after the first week. Let’s get into the match prediction.

After a jam-packed summer, which included the FIFA Club World Cup and a couple of tough friendlies, Atletico Madrid faded in their season opener against Espanyol last week and lost the match 2-1. 

Julian Alvarez was the only Atleti goal scorer last week and has now netted three goals in his last three league matches on either side of the summer break. 

Diego Simeone will be looking forward to returning to Estadio Metropolitano, where his side won each of their final four league games last season and scored three or more goals in each of those victories. 

Meanwhile, after earning promotion back to the top flight after two seasons in the second tier, Elche's primary goal this term will be to stay as far clear of the drop as possible. 

Los Franjiverdes made a fairly positive start to their top-flight season, taking a point off Real Betis via a 1-1 draw in which Rodrigo Riquelme scored their only goal midway through the first half. 

Indeed, the visitors face a massive step up in class of opposition now, but they did fare well on the road last season, recording 15 wins, three draws, and three defeats in the Segunda Division.
