Pompey fans will be heading to the midlands this weekend as West Bromwich Albion host Portsmouth in a key Championship match. Will our prediction back Portsmouth to end their struggles away from home at the Hawthorns, or will the home-town Baggies be the team that we back to take home the three points?
A current run of indifferent form has seen West Brom drop down to seventh in the Championship table, although they are still just one point outside of the playoff spots. Portsmouth’s improved form at home has seen them move off the bottom of the table and out of the drop zone, up to 18th in the table.
Lately, West Brom have not been in the best form in the Championship. A 1-1 draw at Swansea was followed by another 1-1 draw at home to Stoke City. Then, in midweek, they went down 2-0 to Middlesbrough, one of their playoff rivals. The Baggies have won just three of their last 13 Championship games.
The contrast between Portsmouth’s home and away form is stark. Pompey are unbeaten in their last seven at home but have lost five consecutive games away from Fratton Park. Their last defeat was away to Blackburn in a 3-0 defeat but they followed that with a 2-1 home win over Middlesbrough and a 3-1 victory over Stoke City, also at home, in midweek.

Our West Brom vs Portsmouth Prediction
Our prediction for the West Brom vs. Portsmouth Championship match is: West Bromwich Albion to win and Under 2.5 Goals.
With just one defeat at home this season, the Baggies have solid form against defeat. With three wins in their last four at home, they should be confident against a Portsmouth side whose dismal away form is a direct contrast to better home form of late. Recent form for both teams suggests goals may be at a premium at the Hawthorns, but any that are scored should go the way of the home side.
