Watford have a new manager – Claudio Ranieri; and he gets a tough start to life at Vicarage Road as he leads his new team against Liverpool in Round 8 of the Premier League. Watford are 15th, with seven points, and Liverpool are second with 15 points. Watford have had a tough start to the season upon promotion and go to this game having won just two of their seven league games. They lost 1-0 in their last game ahead of the international break and the first area Ranieri will want to address in the defence, the team having managed just one clean sheet in nine matches. They’ve lost five of the nine matches played this season and failed to score in four of them while they’ve conceded two or more in four. The biggest positive to have come from Watford this season is the form of Ismaila Sarr, who has scored four in the league so far. He will be looking to extend that form in this game, having scored two the last time these two sides met, with Watford winning 3-0. The hosts however, go to this game winless in three home matches, having lost two.

Liverpool on the other hand, are the last remaining unbeaten side in the league and are just a point below league leaders Chelsea. In their last game before the international break, they drew 2-2 with Manchester City to extend their undefeated run to 10 matches. They have won seven of those 10 matches and scored two or more goals in nine of the 10. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been key for the Reds; in the last five matches they have scored a combined eight goals. Salah has scored in each of the last five league matches and Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 17 league games, though the last two have ended in draws. Away from home, Liverpool have scored three or more goals in each of the last five and they have three clean sheets in the last four away league matches.
