The 31-22-7 Philadelphia Flyers are on their travels early on Saturday morning to play the 27-22-9 Washington Capitals in a Metropolitan Division clash. The Caps have finally found their goal-scoring touch in recent games, netting six in each of their last two games here at Capital One Arena and 22 in their last five games overall. Despite that, there are still only three teams who have scored fewer goals than they have so it is a trend that needs to continue. They suffered a heavy defeat in Detroit when last in action with seven different Red Wings lighting the lamp. Charlie Lindgren has been carrying the load for them in net recently with Darcy Kuemper well off the pace this season but that performance suggests he needs a break.
It has been a tough last month for the Flyers in terms of quality of opposition but they have come through February with a 6-3-1 record. They have lacked consistency of performance on the blue line, shipping seven to the Pittsburgh Penguins two starts back and six to the Devils in the outdoor game in New Jersey five games ago. Around those they have given up two or fewer in six of their other eight in February so it can be hard to know what Flyers are going to turn up on any given night. They just edged the Caps in Philadelphia in mid-December but were in a more consistent groove back then. They have a stronger road record overall this season but it's away from home that has seen the defence struggle of late.
