Sheffield United stays rooted at the bottom of the Premier League standings and even ahead of their home game against Aston Villa, survival seems distant. The loss to Liverpool on Sunday left Sheffield on 11 points, 15 below the safety line. Meanwhile, Aston Villa beat Leeds United 1-0 to rise to ninth. The earlier signs of revival that Sheffield had shown have all dissipated and the team is back to the dismal results it has been accustomed to for a better part of the campaign. They have scored the least goals in the league (15), won the least (3) and head to this clash on the back of four straight losses in the league. Mathematically, they can still survive, having 36 points still to play for, but with every match day, they seem to be moving closer to the drop. Sheffield have conceded two or more goals in three of their last five matches, pointing to a weakening defence, one of the departments that were working at least earlier on.
