Santos are a pale shadow of the team that reached the Copa Liertadores final last year, and after a poor start, they will be hoping to win on Match Day 3 of the group stages. The Brazilians will host Bolivian side, The Strongest in Group C with both seeking their first points of the campaign. Santos beat Boca Juniors in the semi final of this competition last year, before losing to Palmeiras in the final. They were drawn against the Argentines in this year’s group stage and they are coming from a 2-0 loss inflicted by Boca. Santos earlier lost to Barcelona by the same margin and added to their earlier playoff game against San Lorenzo, they’ve now gone winless in three Libertadores games. In seven Libertadores games, Santos have no clean sheet and it has been tougher for them in the last three, conceding two goals in each of them.

The Strongest are returning to the Copa Libertadores group stages for the first time since 2019. It hasn’t been a great return as they have also suffered straight losses in their opening Group C games. They have been strong at home, in the Bolivian league and lead the standings with 13 points after five matches. However, they’ve found the going tough on the continental scene, and head here straight from a 4-0 loss to Barcelona after capitulating in the second half. The 1-0 loss to Boca Juniors in the opening game makes it three straight Libertadores matches without a goal and they now have one win in 11 matches in this competition. They have seven straight away losses in the Copa Libertadores and failed to score in six of them. In the last six away matches in the competition, they’ve conceded two or more goals.
