In the 19th round of matches in the Brazilian Serie A, Palmeiras are set to host Ceara this Sunday. Promoted side Ceara are currently clinging onto a Copa Sudamericana spot, while Palmeiras are chasing down the top two sides in the title race. Read on for our prediction of the match.
With two games in hand on second-placed Cruzeiro, Palmeiras can no longer be viewed as a distant force in the title race. They are firmly in it, especially as they come to this round trailing the leading two by just four points.
Verdao, however, have had an unconvincing run in recent outings. They dropped points in their last league game, as they drew 2-2 with Vitoria. That draw is sandwiched between two losses in the Brazilian Cup against Corinthians.
Ceara will be looking to add to their hosts’ woes. Even though their own form hasn’t been the best, their last two results are enough to inspire them.
The visitors are coming off a 1-1 draw with Flamengo, and before that they had beaten Cruzeiro. Avoiding defeat against the leading two sides, then heading straight to face the third-placed team will have them pumped up.
Ceara have suffered three straight defeats against Palmeiras but will see this as the chance to end that slump. Two of those three defeats happened this year, in the Brazilian Cup.
