Hacken host Aberdeen in the first leg of their Europa League play-off round tie. A place in the Europa League group stages is at stake for these two clubs. Hacken had an easy win in the third qualifying round beating Zalgiris 8-1 on aggregate. The away first leg was won 3-1 and then they won the return game 5-0 to comfortably progress. The Wasps began the season in the Champions League beating The New Saints but then losing to Kl from the Faroe Islands on a penalty shootout despite leading 2-1 and 3-2. Hacken will be looking to create history from this tie. They have never managed to qualify for the group stages of any European competition. After 20 games of the Swedish Allsvenskan they are in second place, a point behind leaders Elfsborg. They have won their last four games scoring 13 goals. Home form has seen them unbeaten in their last four European games with 13 goals scored. That run began with a match against Aberdeen in the 2020-21 Europa Conference League and the Swedes won that 2-0 but lost the away leg 5-1.
Aberdeen last played in the group stages of a European competition in the 2007-08 season. That was in the old UEFA Cup which is now of course the Europa League. Last season saw them get to this stage in the Europa Conference League but lost to Qarabag. They're hoping to go one step further this time around. The Reds have made a poor start to the new Scottish Premiership season with only one point earned from their first two games. A draw at Livingston was followed by a 3-1 home loss to Celtic. They the Dons struggled to get a win at Stirling Albion in the Scottish League Cup. Away form has seen them lose three of their last four European fixtures. We go for Hacken to get a first leg win.
