The 34-18-4 Colorado Avalanche heads to the 29-20-6 Detroit Red Wings in the early hours of Friday morning. The Red Wings are back at home after a four-game road trip which saw them go 2-2. Their form at home has been solid of late, picking up points in eight of their last 10. Their last two wins here have come over the Vegas Golden Knights and the Vancouver Canucks so they are more than capable of living with anyone on their day. The Avs are up there with those two teams in the West so this will be an interesting test for Detroit. Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond are all closing in on 50 points on the season with the Wings continuing to put some solid goal numbers on the board.
The Avs are chalk and cheese at home and on their travels. They are 13-1 in their last 14 at Ball Arena but 3-6-1 in their last 10 road games. It is hard to figure out exactly why they have struggled so much away from Colorado but they have continued to disappoint on their travels. They have had similar struggles at the back end of the ice as well, scoring the second-most goals in the league but their defence has given up the 21st most. Miles Wood requires one more goal to become the 10th different Av to get into double figures this season. Logan O'Connor is having a career year with 13 tallies, three of those short-handed to lead the team while Nathan MacKinnon continues to set the pace with 92 points.
