The second half of the season has been unkind to Crystal Palace, a team with the worst form in the Premier League. They host Newcastle this weekend with the aim of ending a seven-match winless streak. Their recent troubles have seen them fall one point below Newcastle in the table, Palace being 14th and Newcastle 13th. Both clubs are within seven points of the relegation zone and there is still time to get sucked into that dogfight. Both are coming off the back of heavy defeats. Steve Bruce watched his side capitulate at Arsenal, a second-half implosion seeing them ship four goals, two of which came in stoppage time. Confidence is low in both camps; Palace fans have no faith in their frontline, the worst attack in the division with a goals-per-game average of 0.88; Newcastle, one goal better off, are not much better with their average of 0.92. Yet these are the fine margins that can ensure a club of its Premier League survival. 

Selhurst Park is a notoriously hostile ground for visiting teams, yet Palace have failed to win nine of their 13 games there. While their record on the road is poor - with eight defeats from 13 matches on the road - Newcastle will have their belief bolstered by Palace's domestic problems and their own decent record on Palace's patch. The Magpies have drawn their last two games away to the Eagles, both low-scoring affairs. All signs point to another goal-starved afternoon of football between these teams. Five of their last six matches against each other have featured one goal or fewer. Back under 1.5 goals and take joy from a drab match.
