The 38-20-5 Colorado Avalanche will host the 33-22-6 Detroit Red Wings early on Thursday morning. These teams met in Detroit on the 22nd of February with the Wings winning 2-1 in overtime. The Avs have struggled on the road of late but they boast a 24-6-0 home record, by far the best in the league. They enjoyed being back at Ball Arena last time, seeing off the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0 in a thoroughly lopsided game. In their last nine on the road, they have scored zero or one goal on four occasions, but they have not failed to score at least three at home since the 9th of December. Four points for Nathan MacKinnon against Chicago takes him to 105 on the season. He has a 10-game scoring streak, notching 20 points in that time.
This is the first game of four on the road for the Wings, heading out on their travels after back to back home losses to the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. Their recent form away from home has been solid in the main, winning seven of their last 10 but none of those teams have a record as strong as the Avs do. Their most recent road win came 3-2 in overtime at the Chicago Blackhawks who are the bottom team in the league so they are going to have to play an awful lot better now that they head to the team with the best home record in the league. They are the top wildcard team in the east at present but they will have to be taking points from games like this to stay there.
