Last season was good for Athletic Bilbao, and they will be looking to make this better. Their 95th consecutive La Liga season starts off at home to Sevilla, another side looking to have a better campaign. Read on for our prediction of the match.

With only six defeats in La Liga last season, Athletic have a reason to stay optimistic about the coming one. In terms of performances at home, their 11 wins were the joint fourth best.

However, they couldn’t carry this form to preseason, where they lost each of the last six friendly matches. In their last one, they failed to score, losing 3-0 to Arsenal. They do have a four-match unbeaten run against Sevilla, though.

Sevilla lost only one of their seven preseason matches but managed just two wins, with all the rest ending in draws. Back into competitive action, and there are all the indications Sevilla will struggle here.

The visitors managed just four wins in their total 19 away matches in La Liga. It was the fourth lowest tally on the road, though they avoided one at Athletic. Still, they come into this one as the underdogs, having lost five times in 10 matches against Athletic.

Sevilla’s 4-2 loss to Villarreal at the close of last season was their eighth in 11 matches.
