Continental giants Senegal will kick off their Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade, where they will play host to Burkina Faso on Friday night. The Lions of Teranga and the Stallions will be joined by Burundi and Malawi in Group L of qualifying. Let’s get into the match prediction. 

Senegal had a perfect AFCON group stage earlier this year, as they emerged with three wins in three matches, beating Cameroon, Guinea and Gambia, scoring eight goals and conceding just one. 

However, their competition came to an end in the round of 16 when they were beaten by eventual winners Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw in regulation time. 

Since then, the Lions of Teranga have played four games, winning both friendlies in March against Gabon and Benin before drawing with DR Congo and beating Mauritania in their World Cup qualifying matches at the start of June. 

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso also managed to qualify for the last 16 at the AFCON this year before they were knocked out with a 2-1 defeat to Mali. 

Following that loss, the Stallions have been in poor form, failing to win any of their next four matches, drawing against Niger and Sierra Leone and losing to Libya and Egypt. 

Burkina Faso are now winless in eight straight matches in all competitions and have not beaten their upcoming opponent in their last eight attempts dating back to 2007.
