Bottom of the Western Conference, San Jose Earthquakes host LA Galaxy, who are vying for a play-off spot. The hosts will surely want to put this campaign to bed. They are last in the conference, with a mere thirty-one points accrued from their thirty-one games played and the worst defence of the division with a staggering sixty-four goals conceded. They are also on a torrid run at the moment, having won just two of their last thirteen. If that was not enough, they are also the second-worst home team only behind Houston, albeit being unbeaten in their last three at PayPal Park. Their meetings with the LA side tend to produce fireworks, with seven of their last nine featuring goals at both ends. 

LA Galaxy are at a season-defining point in their campaign at the moment. They are currently occupying the last play-off spot in the conference, yet are level on points with Real Salt Lake and every result counts. Their recent form has been mixed, with two wins and three draws in their last six. They have also been quite poor on their travels of late, losing five of their last eight. The LA outfit also have a poor tradition in their recent meetings at San Jose, winning just one of their last seven there.
