Unseeded Marcos Giron bids to win the Dallas Open this evening. He takes on second seed Tommy Paul in the title decider of this indoor hard court event. Giron was down at 67th in the rankings at the start of this ATP 250 tournament. He's up to 52d in the live rankings and will move up to seventh if winning this title. If he does so that will be a new career high set. The American's form in Dallas has been a surprise. He didn't win a match in the first two tournaments played in 2024. It's finally come together here and he's made it to the final without dropping a set. A qualifier was beaten in the first round and then Giron defeated the sixth seed Max Purcell to go into the quarter finals. He caused another shock getting past the top seeded Frances Tiafoe for the loss of only five games. I the last four on Saturday he beat the fourth seed Adrian Mannarino and only lost four games in doing so. 

Tommy Paul is his opponent in this final and he's been having his best week of the year too. The Dallas Open began with him in 15th place but he's up a place after reaching this final. He will stay in 14th even if lifting the trophy. In the Live ATP Race based on ranking points earned in this calendar year, he's up to 17th. Before this week he hadn't reached an ATP Tour semi-final in 2024. He's also made it to the final without dropping a set. He beat eighth seeded Dominik Koepfer in the quarter finals and in the last four defeated the third seed Ben Shelton. Only six games were lost in that semi-final victory. This is his first final since wining a grass court title last summer. In terms of hard court events this is only the third he's reached and his only title win was in 2021. We tip him to win this final.
