Tip Japan - New Zealand

Japan New Zealand Prediction published on July 29, 2021 at 12:12 AM - modifiedat July 29, 2021 at 12:14 AM

From afar, the Japan versus New Zealand clash in the Olympic Games quarter finals looks like a mismatch. Japan was the only team to collect maximum points at the group stages while New Zealand just about managed to scrape through, with four points. Japan had slim wins over South Africa and Mexico before exploding with a 4-0 win over France in the final Group A match. They have kept two clean sheets at this competition and with their gradual improvement, you can bet they’ll be even better against New Zealand. In six straight matches, Japan U23 have no loss, just one draw, and five wins and they’ve scored two or more goals in four of the six matches. They have three clean sheets in the six matches.

New Zealand started their campaign with a shock win over South Korea, and that laid the base for their advancement to the quarters, as it was their only win at the group stage. They lost 3-2 to Honduras before drawing 0-0 with Romania in the final group game and based on goal difference, finished second in Group B. They are winless in their last two matches but with two clean sheets in their three matches, they will feel they can stand up to the Japan U23 challenge. In their last five matches they’ve failed to score only once and with forwards like Burnley’s Chris Wood, they pose a danger when going forward.

Conclusion Japan - New Zealand

Japan had the best run at the group stages and playing at home has clearly favoured them so far. They will go to this game as favorites and Takefusa Kubo will once again be a man to watch after scoring in each of the group games. New Zealand haven’t been really convincing and all indicators point at this being the end for them. Go for a Japan win.
