There are just three stages left in the 2026 renewal of La Vuelta. Stage 20 is going to be where the overall positions are determined so 19 could be a stage for the attacking climbers like Sepp Kuss to shine. 

Visma have done an exceptional job of stage hunting so far in La Vuelta but they are yet to unleash Kuss on a mountain stage. An exceptional climber when in his usual domestique role for the likes of Jonas Vingegaard, he can ride for himself here and that makes him dangerous. 

The King of the Mountains jersey sits on the back of Santiago Buitrago. He is almost certain to be off in the breakaway group to make sure that it is impossible to catch him with these two days in the mountains contributing plenty of points. He could have enough to be on the podium.

Those who are close to the lead might have to wait until the final kilometres of the climb to try and take anything out of Enric Mas. Richard Carapaz won the last time La Vuelta was on this climb in 2022 but given his position, he is unlikely to be allowed any rope for a successful breakaway.

Although Mattias Skjelmose currently sits in eighth place overall, he is almost eight minutes behind the overall leader and that is going to be a tough gap to close. He is probably far enough behind to be allowed to attack, so it will be interesting to see if he does.
