Last year's finalists Exeter Chiefs begin their 2026-27 Premiership Rugby campaign by playing host to Gloucester Rugby on Saturday at Sandy Park. Chiefs have been difficult opponents at home since last season and are likely to cruise to victory against a Gloucester side that has lost each of their last four matches away from home. Our prediction backs the hosts to cover the handicap.

Exeter Chiefs came extremely close to ending their six-year wait for the Premiership Rugby title last season before losing by nine points to eventual champions Northampton Saints in the final. The two-time champions remain favourites to clinch the trophy this season and will look to strengthen their title credentials with a strong start to the campaign.

Notably, Exeter Chiefs have put together an impressive 16 wins in 18 home matches across all competitions, including a dominant 45–21 Premiership Cup win over Bristol Bears in their last competitive outing. That run includes a solid 7–0–2 record across their nine Premiership fixtures at Sandy Park last season. 

Gloucester Rugby fell by three points to Bristol Bears in their first competitive fixture of the season in the Premiership Cup. They bounced back last time out, easing past Sale Sharks 43–26 in their second Premiership Cup fixture. 

However, the Cherry and Whites head into Saturday's match having lost their last four away matches. They have also suffered defeat in each of their last nine Premiership visits to Exeter Chiefs.
