Tenth placed Austin FC look to get back into the MLS Western Conference play-off positions. They host Minnesota United who are sixth in the conference and three points ahead of their rivals. Austin are only out of the top nine on goal difference from Portland Timbers but need to get back into winning ways. Their last fixture saw them beaten 2-1 at Houston Dynamo after taking a first half lead. That loss followed a defeat by Chicago Fire in the US Open Cup. Austin have only won two of their seven home MLS games this season. Three have been drawn with two defeats but only one of the last five has been won. That was in their last home game, scoring a 91st minute winner to beat Toronto 1-0. Only 14 goals have been scored in their seven home games with five of the last six seeing under 2.5 goals scored in them.

Minnesota United are sixth but have already lost five of their 14 games with the same number being won. Last time out, United were held to a 1-1 home draw by Real Salt Lake City. They went behind in the first half but drew level thanks to their opponents scoring an own goal. Before that that game they also had problems in the US Open Cup, being beaten 4-0 at Houston Dynamo. Only two of their last nine MLS matches have been won by Minnesota with five matches lost. They have picked up a bit of late though with two wins and a draw in their last three games. Each of those games saw under 2.5 goals scored in them. They blow hot and cold on the road with four wins and the same number of defeats.
